Setting Up Your Utilities

Before you move in, it is very important that you set up your utilities. To understand what utilities you pay, you’ll want to look at your lease (section 6a, pictured below). Here are the most common utilities you will incur with Lobos Management.

Each is noted with what you do and do NOT have to set up. Your individual utilities will be different, based on your unit, but this sample lets you know how your utilities are demarcated.

Utilities That Residents Must Set Up

  • Electric: You are responsible for setting up electricity with your electric provider. For example, in the city of Pittsburgh, residents typically use Duquesne Light. You should contact Duquesne Light five to ten business days before your move-in date to set up utilities in your name. Please note that it may take up to ten business days for them to fully process your request, so it’s important to plan ahead for any potential delays. In addition to calling their customer service line at 412-793-7100, you can also set up your service through the Duquesne Light website. Click here to access the link to set up your electric with Duquesne Light.
  • Gas: Not every apartment requires gas heat. Make sure to check your lease to ensure that yours needs gas. If it does, you will want to contact Peoples Natural Gas to put the gas bill in your name. This is mandatory to do before you move in. (That said, in some cases, with buildings such as Highland Manor, we offer free gas heat. Again, you can find this in your lease).
  • Internet/Cable: Though our apartments provide cable access, you will set up your own Internet and Cable. Xfinity and Verizon are two examples of popular providers in the area.

Utilities Residents Do Not Have To Set Up

  • Water/Sewage: You do not have to set up water/sewage. This bill is in our name and requires no set up from you. You will pay a small percentage of the bill, which is determined by building usage, and you can expect to see your water bill hit your account during either your second or third month of occupancy. Hot water is not a separate bill, though it may be heated through electric or gas.
  • Garbage Service: You do not have to set up garbage service. Trash service is always included.
