Why Do We Give You Information About Lead-Based Paint Hazards?
Part of your lease includes a Lead-Based Paint Hazards Statement, and all residents receive this informational pamphlet as part of their move-in packet. The statement and pamphlet explain that homes built before 1978 may contain lead-based paint. As you can imagine, residents who do not have experience living in historic homes or older buildings may have a lot of questions. Fortunately, it’s much less complicated than it may seem.
The fact that this statement is included in your lease does not mean that there is known lead-based paint in your unit. In fact, if there is known information on lead-based paint for a specific unit, it is required to be disclosed in your lease.
While lead-based paint can exist in older homes, there are simple steps you can take to keep yourself and your family safe. If breathed in or ingested, lead from paint chips or dust poses a known health hazard. Therefore, doing things like regularly cleaning floors, window sills, and other surfaces, along with reporting any chipping paint, helps to keep you protected from any potential issues, known or unknown. The pamphlet we provide at move-in includes helpful information, whether you’re living with Lobos now or renting with another company in the future.
